Spirit Of Boom Colt Thundering Soul Makes Winning Debut at Scone

Mark Smith - Sunday January 21

A third 2-year-old winner for the season for Spirit Of Boom when the Kris Lees-trained debutant Thundering Soul triumphed in a dramatic finish to the Yarraman Park Hcp (900m) at Scone on Sunday.

The race changed dramatically over the final 100m in a field of seven first starters. Dylan Gibbons brought Thundering Soul down the centre of the track to defeat the Brutal filly The Eyes Have It by a neck, with the Headwater gelding Ride The River a half-length back in third.

“It was an outstanding win by a young horse going places,” stable representative Kieran Forbes said.

“Dylan gave him time to find himself, and he hit the line hard.

“He is a lovely Spirit Of Boom colt with a future.”

Bahen Bloodstock and Lees Racing bought Thundering Soul for $200,000 from the Redbank North/Huntworth Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

He is the second winner from as many foals for the winning Mossman mare Miss Falsified, who died shortly after foaling Thundering Soul.

A winner at Canberra and Wagga and placed twice from five starts, Miss Falsified is a half-sister to Listed winner Hot ‘n’ Ready (More Than Ready) from the family of Group 1 winner and successful stallion Highest Honor (Kenmare).

Spirit Of Boom joins Alabama Express, Tassort, Brazen Beau, Cosmic Force, and Sun City with three 2-year-winners behind only Kobayashi with five winners from six starters, and Too Darn Hot (GB), with four winners from seven starters.
