Fifth Australian First Crop Winner for Medaglia

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 20
High profile Darley shuttler Medaglia D'Oro (USA) is putting together a nice tally of winners with the Peter Snowden trained first starter Farolitos adding his name to the list when scoring at Mornington in Sunday.

Medaglia D'OroFarolitos was sent out favourite and was too strong for Manhattan Rain colt Manhattan Avenue when forging clear to win the 1200 metre maiden by the best part of a length.

Farolitos is the second foal and second winner for Chandelier, a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) to Group I winning sire Charge Forward.

Despite being the sire of 53 stakes-winners worldwide, Medaglia D'Oro has not really been expected to fire up fast with his two year-olds here with overseas results leading most to believe his stock would benefit from time and some sort of trip.

That said, his efforts to date appear very encouraging and he will no doubt receive a warm reception if he returns for Darley this year.

Medaglia D'Oro covered his biggest book of 118 mares last year at a fee of $55,000 and his yearlings at Inglis Easter averaged $268,333 led by the half-sister to Group I winner Fiveandahalfstar that sold for $500,000.
