New Home for Shaft

Media Release - Sunday April 20
The Group II Silver Slipper Stakes winner Shaft (Flying Spur-Traceable by Rahy) will stand at Hardwick Stud, Yass from 2014 on a fee of $3300.

ShaftThe Danehill grandson, whose dam is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy, is already the sire of 50 winners of close to $2m including NZ stakes winner and Group I runner-up Magic Shaft.

He's also sired the smart city winners Such Hope, Erin's Element, Flight Academy, Massale, Deakes and Boom Baby Boom and his runners have a winning distance index of 1225m.

Shaft, who retired to stud for Darley in 2008, defeated Husson Lightning and Murtajill in the 2007 Silver Slipper (1100m in 1:04.02) on debut and was then third in the Todman Slipper Trial-Gr.3 behind Meurice and Zizou and sixth of 16 in the Golden Slipper behind Forensics.

Although he won a 900m trial in Sydney at three, he was unable to regain his good juvenile form and was retired after just three more runs.

He should prove popular with breeders in southern NSW as he's by a champion sire and Golden Slipper winner in Flying Spur and his second dam is champion filly Tracy's Element (Last Tycoon (IRE)-Princess Tracy (IRE) by Ahonoora (GB)).

This is the immediate family of sires Red Element, Danasinga, Cullen, Towkay, Prince Arthur and Master of Design.

Shaft stands alongside talented Hong Kong performer and successful former WA-based sire Bearcat (Danehill (USA)-Fitting by Marscay), a brother to Golden Slipper winner Catbird.
