First Stakes-Winner for Econsul

Media Release - Sunday April 20
Exciting filly Best Yet to Come earned an important stakes victory for Woodside Park Stud in winning the Listed BRC Princess Stakes over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The Ellerton/Zahra trained 3yo finished relentlessly to edge out roughie Quest for Peace ($41) by a nose with favourite Little Bit Ditsy ($4.75) a short neck away in 3rd place.

Winning rider Jason Taylor was responsible for a wonderful ride finding a spot one off the fence from barrier 14 and extricating the filly out of the ruck to find clear space in the straight.

EconsulBest Yet to Come took her record to  two wins and two placings from just four starts with 106,400 in prizemoney.

The victory was particularly sweet for Woodside Park Stud General Manager Murray Tillett, who hatched the ambitious plan to send the lightly raced daughter of Econsul to Qld in a bid to win valuable blacktype.

"We looked at the races available and felt after her last performance that she could be competitive in this race so asked the question and fortunately Matty and Simon were amenable and this result is just unbelievable," said Tillett.

"We (Woodside Park) bred this filly from our former stallion Econsul and still have her mother so this is just a great result for the farm."

The victory is also pleasing given the strong relationship between Woodside Park Stud and the Ellerton/Zahra stable.

"Matty and Simon have been big supporters of our emerging pre-training and breaking in business and we've had a good run with a number of winners coming via our system. We're rapped to enjoy this success with them and hope there is much more to come."

Best Yet to Come is the inaugural stakes winner for Caulfield Guineas winner Econsul, a former resident stallion for Woodside Park Stud.

Econsul spent 5 years at Woodside Park Stud before being transferred to Darling View Thoroughbreds in Western Australia.

Best Yet to Come is the 4th live foal of Kingdom Bay mare Simply the Best (NZ), herself a smart race mare and listed placegetter.

At stud, Simply the Best (NZ) has done a good job and already produced the stakes placed Simply Put (by Charge Forward) prior to Best Yet to Come.

Simply the Best (NZ) has a 2yo full sister to Best Yet to Come which has been retained by Woodside Park Stud and is presently in foal to promising Darley stallion Helmet.

Woodside Park Stud will offer a yearling half-sister to Best Yet to Come by proven stallion Domesday at the upcoming Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in June.
