Aidan O'Brien claimed his Classic aspirant Australia
(Galileo) as possibly the best horse he has trained, so it would be interesting
to find out how Chris Waller rates Australia's half-brother Our Voodoo Prince
(GB) after the son of Kingmambo kept his Australian record at a perfect three
for three when opening his stakes account in Saturday's $150,000 Group III
Easter Cup (2000m) at Caulfield.
Trapped between runners near the tail of the field, James
Winks weaved a path on Our Voodoo Prince to defeat Akzar (IRE) ¾-length with
Stipulate (GB) 1 ½-lengths in a finish that would not have been out of place at
Royal Ascot.
"I shut my eyes, but James was calm and the horse did the rest so it all worked out well in the end," Chris Waller's Melbourne foreperson Justine Hales said.
"He's a bit of a revelation, this horse. He doesn't
really show that much at home, but he's obviously very smart. I think Chris
will put him away now and look towards the Spring with him."
A 6yo son of Kingmambo, OurVoodoo Prince was sold at the
Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale on Monday for 80,000gns to Chris Waller
Racing. He had won three of his 17 starts in England for Ed Dunlop and was stakes-placed
while looking well short of top class.
He is the first foal of champion mare Ouija Board, a 7-time
winner at the top-level including the Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks and two runnings
of the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare turf for her owner-breeder Lord Derby.
The daughter of Cape Cross has produced four winners from
four runners with Voodoo Prince joining last season's unbeaten Group III winner
Australia as black-type winners.
Ouija Board has a yearling colt by Dubawi and was not
covered last year.
