Impressive Debut for Darley Blueblood

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 9
Darley shuttler Medaglia D'Oro (USA) posted his fourth Australian first crop winner when two year-old filly Shaumari scored easily on debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Medaglia D'OroA Darley homebred prepared by Peter Snowden, Shaumari powered clear to win over 1100 metres by nearly three lengths.

"Peter identified her as having a tonne of ability very early on," said stable representative Brad Widdup.

"She's just taken that little bit of time to come into her own."

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy parked Shaumari just off the speed before easing three and four deep around the home turn and she showed above average acceleration in the heavy conditions to win as she pleased.

The performance has connections looking towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival with stakes goals in mind.

A half-sister to Group III winner Safeguard from Group I winner Preserve, Shaumari is the seventh winner from seven foals to race for her dam, who is a half-sister by Canny Lad to Group I winner Denman.

A leading sire in North America, Medaglia D'Oro has been popular with Australian breeders and covered 118 mares last spring at a fee of $55,000.
