Exciting Valley Winners for Widden Sires

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 7

Widden young gun Trapeze Artist kept his momentum going with a new winner at Moonee Valley last night in Reprisal, while evergreen Widden stalwart Star Witness had a five winner Friday with unbeaten mare Frilled putting the icing on the cake with her first metro victory also at the Valley.

The Danny O’Brien trained gelding Reprisal improved on his debut third at Bendigo back in May to resume from a spell with a late charging run to take the 1200m maiden by half a length.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Widden Stud draft, Reprisal is a half-brother to stakes-winner Absolute Flirt and is the third winner from winning Northern Meteor mare Bisutti, a half-sister to stakes-winner Pressing.

The final foal of Bissuti is a two year-old colt by Trapeze Artist that sold for $130,000 at Inglis Easter this year.

Heading into a busy day of stakes racing around Australia, Trapeze Artist is sitting on top of the Australian Second crop sires list by earnings with seven winners with progeny earnings topping $638,000.

Matthew Smith has done a great job placing talented Star Witness mare Frilled and after notching three successive wins at Nowra and Kembla she went out favourite for the Benchmark 70 event over 1000m with Damien Oliver to ride.

Frilled gave it her all as she always does and kicked on to win by half a length and has won just shy of $100,000 in prizemoney.

Frilled was retained to race by her breeders and is the first winner for stakes-placed Sebring mare Frill Seeking, a daughter of Group III winner Vietnam, who was second in a Group I Queensland Oaks.

Frill Seeking has been a regular visitor to the Widden sires and has an unnamed two year-old filly by Zousain and has foaled this spring producing a filly by Anders.
