The Winning Edge

Media Release - Monday March 20

Group I results over the past two weeks show the enormous benefit of checking a horse’s pedigree analysis on the Pedigrees 360 software before purchasing a yearling, according to Leo Tsatsaronis who heads up the cutting-edge pedigree software business.

“Our pedigree platform has shown itself to be approx. 73% accurate in predicting the likely racing class of horses,” Tsatsaronis claimed.

“When you look at the Group 1 winners of the last two weeks it is easy to see how many of them have very good (excellent) profiles on our software.”

Two year-old Snitzel colt Shinzo won the Golden Slipper, while Extreme Choice mare Espiona won the Coolmore Classic.

“SHINZO and ESPIONA are both exceptional as there are 3 components we look for in every 9 generation pedigree profile -

  1. Green lights in the cluster profile- the higher the better
  2. Cross duplications of sires
  3. Cross duplications of mares

"SHINZO and ESPIONA have all 3, which is quite rare.”

ANAMOE, MARIAMIA. MR BRIGHTSIDE, IN SECRET all have excellent profiles. Across the ditch, Saturday’s two Group 1 winners ROMANCING THE MOON and PENNYWEKA both have excellent profiles.

“What stands out as well is that many horses were inexpensive buys, MR BRIGHTSIDE sold for only $22,000 and MARIAMIA was a bargain at $18,000. While on the other hand there are plenty of very high-priced yearlings which are superficially well bred but because the sire and dam’s pedigrees are not compatible, they can turn out to be poor performers on the track,” Tsatsaronis explained.

“Yearling buyers who check the pedigree profile of all lots on their short list at yearling sales are tripling their chances of securing a quality horse.

“Obviously yearling buyers still need to check conformation, movement, x rays etc but using the Pedigrees 360 software does give buyers a huge advantage over competitors.”

Tsatsaronis spent the new year period in Europe and the UK launching the product in the northern hemisphere.

“Breeders and buyers in the Europe and the US loved the product and quite amazingly we now have more subscribers in the northern hemisphere than we have in Australia. And I’m delighted to say that includes some of the most progressive breeders in the world including Juddmonte, Mt Brilliant, the Niarchos Group and Blandford Bloodstock,” Tsatsaronis said.

“Locally, we now have a lot of major trainers and bloodstock agents/syndicators using the platform to filter their short lists. I can’t mention their names as they would yell at me for disclosing their edge,” Tsatsaronis said with a smile.
