Kalino Returns Bigger and Better

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 14

Talented Pierro gelding Kalino has made a great start to his new preparation winning first up at Randwick on Christmas Eve and then repeating the performance to win at Rosehill on Saturday.

Trained by Chris Waller, Kalino was tried over longer trips last time in work, but with two brilliant wins at his first two runs back at 1200m, he might have found his niche as a back marking sprinter.

“He’s a much more mature horse this time, he’s just grown up in himself,” said stable representative Damien Fitton.

“He’s been working well and is much calmer in the stables. We think he can get to Group and Listed level if he’s placed well and his owners will have a lot of fun with him.”

A $210,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Tyreel Stud draft for Star Thoroughbreds / Randwick Bloodstock Agency (FBAA), Kalino has five wins and two placings from 15 starts and prizemoney just topping $423,000.

He was bred by Bill and Chris Lovatt and is the second winner from two foals to race from I Am Invincible mare Lanikai.

A half-sister to stakes-placed Peace Not War, Lanikai comes from the family of Group I winners River Dove and Crown Prosecutor as well as Group II winner and promising young sire Headwater.

$300,000 Yes Yes Yes filly from Lanikai

Lanikai has a yearling filly by Yes Yes that was consigned by Tyreel Stud and sold for $300,000 to BK Racing at Magic Millions this week and she is back in foal to him again.
