Second in a Hawkesbury maiden back in November, the
progressive Makfi (GB) filly Imposing Lass has not looked back since with four
consecutive wins highlighted by Saturday's Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m)
at the Gold Coast.
Ridden by Jason Collett for trainer Bjorn Baker, Imposing
Lass led every step of the way to defy the fast finishing Self Esteem (Stratum)
by a half-length with Kebede (Redoute's Choice) a length and a quarter back in
third.
"She's a bombproof filly who does everything right and
once she found the front she was always going to take a lot of running
down," Jack Bruce, foreman for trainer Bjorn Baker, said.
"Once Jason got her to settle she was able to kick
strongly because she's a very push-button type of filly.
"Every time Bjorn has raised the bar with her she's
handled it pretty easily."
The Group I Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 4
is the ultimate goal for Imposing Lass who will have her final lead-up in the
Group II The Roses (2000m) at Doomben on May 21.
A $120,000 purchase by Paul Willets out of the Westbury Stud
draft at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale, Imposing Lass is a
half-sister to Group III Adrian Knox Stakes winner and Group 1 placed Flying
Spur mare Full Of Spirit.
Her dam Imposingly (Zabeel) is a three-quarter sister to Group
1 Mackinnon Stakes winner Champagne and Group 1 NZ Derby winner St Reims.
A full sister to Imposing Lass was purchased by Baker Racing
for $150,000 at the 2015 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale.
The now 2yo filly is named Bonneval won at her career debut
at Hastings in April.
Imposingly has a yearling colt by Redwood (GB) and a colt
foal by Camelot (GB).
She was bred back to WS Cox Plate hero Adelaide last spring.
