The
$151,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on Wednesday was won by Yesterday's
Songs, a $160,000 NZB Premier Yearling Sale purchase from the Curraghmore Stud
draft for Paul Moroney Bloodstock.
The Mike Moroney trained son of Henrythenavigator (USA) ploughed through the
heavy conditions to take the 1200 metre sprint by a length in posting his first
Black Type success.
"I've ridden him his last two starts and he ran well but was feeling the
firm tracks," said winning rider James Winks.
"Today he could get his toe in and cantering to the barriers I could feel
he was a happier horse."
Yesterday's Songs had raced in a one eyed blinker at his previous two starts
but raced in a full set in the Wangoom.
"He travelled sweet for me all the way," Winks said, "I was waiting
for the gap around the turn and when it came he was through it and away. He did
it really well."
Yesterday's Songs has the overall record of five wins and five placigns from 19
starts with prizemoney just shy of $275,000.
The 11th stakes-winner for former Coolmore shuttler Henrythenavigatot,
he is a half-brother to Group II placed Rahveel and is the best of six winners
from stakes-winner Sarah Vee.
