Emirates Park shuttle sire
Dream Ahead (USA) was represented by his fourth individual local 2-year-old
winner when Gimlet produced a determined late finish to score over 1000 meres
on the first day of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival.
Having only the second outing of her
career after a promising minor placing at Flemington on debut, Gimlet went to
post as the $3.80 favourite of the VOBIS Strike Gold assignment and duly
obliged for her supporters. Ridden just off the pace in the early stages, the
precocious daughter of Dream Ahead made a sustained effort around the outside
of the field turning for home before responding to the urgings of race rider
Damian Lane.
Gimlet is the fourth successful
2-year-old runner of Dream Ahead's first crop in Australia. The filly's victory
elevated the Emirates Park-owned stallion into second position on the Leading
First Season Sires listing based on individual winners.
Gimlet races in the very familiar
colours of Contract Racing who also bred the talented filly. She is the first
foal of Limerock (byCharge Forward) and hails from a family that features
the celebrated international broodmare sire Ogygian.
Dream Ahead returns to Emirates Park this spring at a fee of $27,500.
