Hinchinbrook filly Flying Jess cast off maiden status with a tenacious win in
the Group III SAJC Sires Produce Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday to the
great delight of her big team of Prime Thoroughbreds owners.
Trained at Caulfield by John Moloney, Flying Jess had been placed at her last
two runs in Victoria and proved hard to catch in the 1400 metre contest.
She raced up on the pace for Jordan Childs and after finding the front, refused
to surrender, hanging on to win by a head over the well backed favourite Smart
Manoeuvre.
Flying Jess continued a good run for fillies in the SA Sires' Produce Stakes
when she became the third filly in a row to win the event after Go Indy Go and
The Grey Flash is 2014 and 2015 respectively.
It was the first win for Flying Jess, a $60,000 Magic Millions purchase for Joe
O'Neill's Prime Thoroughbreds from the Milburn Creek draft.
Bred and offered for sale by John Muir's Milburn Creek, Flying Jess is the best
of four winners from stakes-placed Magic Albert mare Maritess, a half-sister to
stakes-winner Come Fly With Me.
The current yearling from Maritess, a filly by Excelebration (IRE) was sold by
Milburn Creek as a yearling for $6,000 last year at Magic Millions to Sledmere
Stud, who will re-offer her at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale as Lot 136.
Maritess was also on-sold last year at Magic Millions with Boomer Bloodstock
securing her for $42,500 in foal to Not a Single Doubt, a purchase that looks a
good one with the benefit of hindsight!
She has since produced a filly from that mating and was covered last spring by
I am Invincible.
Flying Jess is the fifth stakes-winner for Hinchinbrook, who has had a fee
increase for 2016 at Yarraman Park and stands at $38,500.
