First Stakes Win for Real Saga Filly

Mark Smith - Saturday November 28
Trainer Tony Gollan thought highly enough of Secret Saga to take on the southerners in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick back on October 17 and while she found the class a bit too hot there she has been unstoppable since returning home.

A facile winner at Doomben at her most recent start the chestnut daughter of Real Saga took the leap to stakes company in her stride leading all the way under Jim Byrne to defeat the fast closing La Dolce Vita by a half-head in Saturday's Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben.

The luckless Madotti came with a barnstorming finish to be three-quarters of a length back in third.

Secret Saga advances her overall record to 5 wins and 1 second from 9 starts for earnings of $351,200.

Gollan said Secret Saga would likely have just one more start this preparation in the Listed Gold Edition Stakes on December 12.

"I would then like to bring her back to run in the Sydney autumn. She pulled a shoe at her only run in Sydney and I would like to show them how good she is," Gollan told AAP.

The Gibson family homebred is the third foal and third winner out of Dulacca Diva a 7-time winner by Lion Hunter.

Dulacca Diva is a daughter of the Octagonal mare Pentagonal a half-sister to Listed Scone Cup and Listed Pacesetter Stakes winner Newton Rings (Spectrum).

After not having a live foal for two seasons, Dulacca Diva foaled a colt by High Chaparral on October 16.

Secret Saga becomes the fifth stakes-winner for Glenlogan Park's Real Saga who has nine lots catalogued for the Magic Millions in January.
