Denman
filly Alpina was the equal most expensive filly by her sire sold in 2014 when
purchased by the China Horse Club at Inglis Easter and she scored an impressive
win at Goulburn on Thursday to the great surprise of punters.
Spelled after a debut last in the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes won by Always
Allison, she again finished last when resuming from a spell in a strong midweek
maiden won by Serene Majesty.
Dropped back in grade for a 1200 metre maiden by her trainer John Thompson,
Alpina turned it all around to lead throughout and win by more than three
lengths.
Bred and consigned for sale by Sledmere Stud, Alpina fetched $300,000 at Inglis
Easter and is a half-sister to Group III winner Politeness.
She is the third winner for Berengaria, a half-sister by Commands to Group II
winner Thackeray and stakes-winner Fairytales, the dam of Group II winner
Parables.
Berengaria has a yearling colt by Street Cry (IRE) and is due to foal to
Snitzel.
Denman's classy sprinter Kuro is set to resume from a spell for new trainers
Lee and Anthony Freedman this Saturday in the Group II MVRC McEwen Stakes at
Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Denman stands at Darley at a fee of $27,500.
