What a versatile stallion the regally bred Ustinov is, Moorookyle Park Thoroughbreds' son of Seeking The Gold and Let's Elope kicking off the new season in good style with three recent winners of varying types.
The Chris Waller trained Sir Mako looks a stayer of the future on the back of his fast finishing victory at Moonee Valley a couple of weeks ago, the lightly raced eight-year-old doing a great job since arriving from New Zealand in May.
Since then the talented bay has had six starts, winning at Randwick and Rosehill before venturing to Melbourne where he was strong to the line recording the sixth success of his 18 start career.
On the same day in New Zealand Ustinov's durable seven-year-old son Jack Romanov was in winning form over the sticks at Ellerslie, proving 3 1/2 lengths too good for his rivals in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup.
It was a sentimental victory for Jack Romanov's trainer Mark Brooks whose grandfather Harold won the same race 54 years previously!
Lovers of stayers should certainly consider Ustinov for their mares but do note that he can sire all sorts of runners as evidenced by recent Pakenham winner Topkapi who sped home over 1200m.
Ustinov's 13 stakes performed gallopers have won over a great variety of distances from 1000m to 3200m and his progeny are durable as well, hitting form at three and racing on - and on!
"Ustinov is a beautiful thoroughbred specimen," enthused Moorookyle's Nioka Wozny, "and he passes on his class and athleticism to his progeny who are known for their strength, soundness and toughness."
"Traits which make him the ideal choice for owner/breeders."
Wozny is also happy with the progress of her new stallion Cecconi who sired four winners in August.
At Canterbury early in the month Cecconi's four-year-old daughter It Aint Over saluted at her first run since February whilst a couple of weeks later his son Donlee was strong to the line breaking his maiden at Woodville.
That same week saw the Malaysian based Street Of London record his third victory from 15 starts - and that consistent galloper has also figured in the placings on nine occasions.
It takes tough horses to win on the Asian circuit and Cecconi has another exciting prospect in the shape of Singapore galloper Joe Swiper who raced away to a four length victory at Kranji in late August.
The Leslie Khoo trained gelding impressed jockey Rueven Ravindra in the process - "he gave a very good kick in the straight," he said.
From limited opportunities the good looking Cecconi has sired 22 winners and being a son of Encosta de Lago he is suited back in Victoria where his sire first made his name as the champion stallion he is.
A speedy two-year-old who won the Listed Blue Diamond Preview, Cecconi - a $460,000 Easter yearling - is out of the dual stakes winning Blazing Sword mare Tonicity.
