Exciting
young sire Star Witness posted an impressive debut winner at Swan Hill on
Monday for the powerful Darren Weir stable.
Stellar Collision enjoyed a cosy run from barrier one and when steered into
clear ground in the straight by Brad Rawiller produced a slick turn of foot to
bound clear and win the 975 metre maiden by two lengths.
Not offered at auction, Stellar Collision is the first winner for well-bred
More Than Ready (USA) mare What an Impact, who comes from the family of Group
II winner Elegant Fashion and her Group III winning daughter Star Fashion.
Further back the family traces to celebrated matriarch Highclere, whose many
Group I winning descendants include the likes of Nashwan, Nayef, champion Japanese
sire Deep Impact and imported Australian Group I winner My Kingdom of Fife.
Stellar Collision is the tenth winner (eight in Australia, two in South Africa)
for Star Witness, who has also sired seven stakes performers headed by The
Barrister and Pearl Star.
Star Witness stands at a fee of $22,000 this spring.
