Singapore Star for Artie

Media Release - Monday June 29

Emirates Park Victoria stallion Artie Schiller (USA) has one of the rising stars of Singapore racing currently representing him in the form of Twickenham, a determined winner on Sunday's card at Kranji.

Artie SchillerA 4-year-old gelding already with four wins over 1200-1400m to his credit before his latest engagement, Twickenham tackled 1800 metres for the first time in his promising career and came through the assignment delivering the best possible outcome.

In what was regarded by connections as a trial for the upcoming S$1,150,000 Singapore Derby (2000m), Twickenham was able to accelerate off a muddling pace before slugging out a hard fought finish to win by a short-head. The victory virtually guaranteed the promising son of Artie Schiller a start in the Kranji feature to be run on July 12.

Winning rider Corey Brown claimed after his victory aboard Twickenham: "I pushed the button at the 300m mark and he really got going. But he started to fade after taking the lead and when [the runner-up] OM snuck a head in front from the outside, he started fighting back."

Brown added: "He has won both ways before, from the back as well as from a leading position, but he's better with a target to run at."

Twickenham's 11 starts in Singapore have returned five wins and three placings for prizemoney close enough to S$300,000.
