As a full sister to triple Group I winner Mentality,
this filly looked to have been well bought at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling
Sale, but things did not turn out quite as planned.
Three year-old Flying Spur filly Rationality was sent out a short priced
favourite for the 1200 metre maiden at Geelong on Friday and powered clear to
win by nearly three lengths.
It was her first run back from a spell following a debut second at Seymour back
in February, so she should be improved by the run.
Rationality saluted in the Arrowfield colours, but was originally bought by Grandlodge
Thoroughbreds for $67,500 from the Arrowfield draft at the Inglis Premier
Yearling Sale.
"She had a cut on her hind leg at the sale and when Peter Anastasiou
(Grandlodge Thoroughbreds) got her home, his trainer thought there may be some
tendon involvement and therefore a problem with the filly, so Arrowfield
happily cancelled the sale and took her back," revealed Arrowfield's Susan
Archer.
"Mr Anastasiou then went to the Inglis Easter Sale and, through his agent Dermot
Farrington, bought Group II winner Moonovermanhattan from Arrowfield instead –
a happy case of 'all's well that ends well'!"
Rationality is a full sister to $2.1 million earner Mentality, who made the
Randwick mile his own in winning the Champagne Stakes at two, the Randwick
Guineas at three and the George Main Stakes at four.
She is the fifth winner for Synaesthesia (USA) and is also a sibling to the
dams of Group II winner I'm All the Talk and stakes-winner Gold Force, so she'll
be a lovely broodmare for Arrowfield when her racing days are done.
Synaesthesia (USA) has a weanling colt by Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup
winner Animal Kingdom (USA) and will foal again to him this spring.
