Retired
to Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand, 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking sired his
very first winner at Echuca on Friday when Shockaholic saluted at the second
time of asking.
A two year-old gelding prepared by Matt Laurie, Shockaholic improved on his
unlucky debut fourth on April 11, finding the line strongly to hold out Stryker gelding Muccino to win
the 1100 metre maiden by a long neck.
A $75,000 NZB Select Sale purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft for Matt
Laurie/ Cameron Cooke Bloodstock, Shockaholic is the third winner from Lady of
the House, a half-sister to Group I MRC Caulfield Cup winner Descarado.
Given his pedigree, one would think a win over 1100 metres is a bonus for this
youngster, who should be better suited over a lot further.
A son of ill-fated Street Cry (IRE), Shocking stands this spring in New Zealand
at a fee of $7,500.
