Phelan Ready Wins Again

Mark Smith - Saturday December 20
Rejuvenated gelding Phelan Ready turned back the clock to win Saturday's XXXX Gold Hcp (1200m) by two lengths.

It was the second win in three starts this preparation for the 8yo gelding the first time he has achieved that feat since his two-year-old days.

Almost six years ago the son of More Than Ready (USA) captured the Magic Millions 2YO Classic then, two starts later, added the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill.

He went winless in his next 43 starts, drawing blanks in his 3yo, 4yo, 5yo, 6yo and 7yo seasons.

The Jason McLachlan-trainee rewarded his patient connections by making a winning start to his 8yo season at Eagle Farm and was then far from disgraced when a close-up seventh in the Group II Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint in October.

Bred by Carl Holt and born and raised at Kitchwin Hills, Phelan Ready moves his overall record to 4 wins, 6 seconds and 7 thirds from 52 starts with earnings of $3,772,350.

He is the second foal of Group II Adelaide Guineas winner Nancy Eleanor (Blevic), a sister to dual Listed Stakes winner Stillme and a half-sister to two-time Group III Coongey Hcp winner Baughurst.

The final foal of Nancy Eleanor is a yearling brother to Phelan Ready.

In foal to the champion So You Think, Nancy Eleanor died in March last year.

The ever popular More Than Ready (USA) has 36 yearlings catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale beginning on January 7 and just one lot at the Inglis Classic Yearling sale in February.
