Queensland Bred 2YOs on Track for Millions

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 13
The Listed BRC Phelan Ready Stakes and Calaway Gal Stakes at Doomben on Saturday were both won by Queensland bred two year-olds purchased for modest sums, Wicked Intent giving his young sire Wicked Style (USA) his first stakes-winner.

Unbeaten colt Wicked Intent made it three wins in as many starts when he bolted away to win the 1050 metre scamper by more than four lengths.

Prepared by Barry Mitchell, Wicked Intent has now won over $196,000 in prizemoney and is favourite for the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

A $16,000 purchase from the Oaklands Stud draft at the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, Wicked Intent is the first winner for Tell'em It's Easy, an Easy Rocking grand-daughter of Group III winner Bernalla.

Exported to China in 2013, Tell'em It's Easy comes from the family of Group III winner Tellson and stakes-winners Telltina, Startell and Tellem,

Wicked Intent is the first stakes-winner for Wicked Style, a Group I winning son of Machu Uno that stands at Oaklands Stud at a fee of $5,500.

With his oldest progeny three year-olds, Wicked Style has left 10 winners from 38 runners and has two entries for Magic Millions 2015.

Leading Brisbane trainer Liam Birchley is never far away in sales incentive races and produced a Magic Millions contender in Sequalo filly Flamenco, who dived late to score a narrow debut win in the Listed BRC Calway Gal Stakes.

Flamenco as a yearlingA $30,000 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale purchase from the Lyndhurst Stud draft, Flamenco is reminiscent in appearance to Liam Birchley's former star Sequalo filly Missy Longstocking, who was also a flashy chestnut and won this race in 2012.

A three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Holding, Flamenco is the first foal of Hidden Dragon mare Hidden Flair, who comes from the family of Group I VRC Oaks winner Scomeld.

Flamenco is the 20th stakes-winner for Sequalo, who died earlier this year and also has two entries for Magic Millions.
