On several occasions Caulfield trainer Colin Scott has had to stop to answer one question – "who is that horse?!".
Such a striking individual that he catches everyone's eye amongst the throng of quality horses in training at Caulfield, Giramondo is not only handsome but talented.
At Geelonglast Sunday having just his third start, Giramondo impressed leading throughout when stepping up to 1400m for the first time.
Green at his first couple of outings, Giramondo has shown a bit more at each start and is that improvement that has impressed his trainer.
"What I like about him is that he has improved with every gallop," he said.
"And he has done the same with his racing."
Giramondo's victory was a significant one for Damian White Bloodstock – owners and managers of promising young sire Globetrotter.
A well credentialled young stallion, Globetrotter has had just three runners to date with Giramondo his first winner.
And his other two have also shown potential with the speedy Armarni placed at debut whilst Fairy Blossom has performed nicely at her first two outings on the back of a smart trial victory.
"Globetrotter has had only small books of around 30 mares but every trainer who has them likes what they see," Damian White said.
And Colin Scott is certainly a fan – "if anyone wants to send me more Globetrotters I gladly have them!" he said.
Giramondo is typical of the type that Globetrotter is leaving.
"He is a lovely big strong horse who stands over a lot of ground," Scott said – "and he does everything right."
These are the sorts of reports White has been fielding for several months now and he is confident that Globetrotter, despite his limited opportunities to date, has a bright future.
"He is throwing a very Street Cry type of horse and he is upgrading his mares… he is siring correct foals out of mares with ordinary legs."
One of 86 stallions sired by the late great Street Cry, Globetrotter displayed a brilliant turn of foot during a short career.
A three times winner from six starts, Globetrotter won his first two at two including the Group 3 Breeders' Cup Stakes and he was second at Group One level.
An imposing 16hh chestnut, Globetrotter is a half-brother to the stakes winner Slew's Exchange out of a daughter of the high class race and broodmare Icy Warning.
Boasting a pedigree of considerable depth with four strains of the prolific Almahmoud family, Globetrotter is a strong match for a variety of Australian mares.
