Sub-fertile
sire sensation Starspangledbanner made it two winners from two Australian runners
when Surfin' Safari saluted at Newcastle on Sunday.
A flashy chestnut two year-old colt prepared on the track by Paul Perry, Surfin'
Safari got home to score by a long neck in the 900 metre maiden beating the
Godolphin entry Lycia, that was sent out favourite.
An $80,000 Inglis Easter Session II purchase for his trainer from the
Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft, Surfin' Safari is the eighth winner from nine
to race from stakes-placed Lake Alexandrina, a half-sister to Golden Slipper
winner Marauding.
Currently covering a select book of mares at Rosemont Stud in Victoria, Starspangledbanner
is due to return to Coolmore Ireland in 2015.
He has left 11 winners in the Northern Hemisphere from limited runners led by
Group I winner The Wow Signal and Group II winner Anthem Alexandra, while in
Australia has had just the two runners for stakes-winner Of The Brave and now
Surfin' Safari.
