First Stakes Winner for Beneteau

Mark Smith - Saturday November 8

The Danny O'Brien-trained colt Prompt Return became the first winner for Beneteau when he scored at Bendigo on October 18 and he can now credit the deceased son of Redoute's Choice with his first stakes-winner following a dominant performance in Saturday's Racing.Com Maribyrnong Plate (1000m).

Looking every bit the true professional Prompt Return was first to leave the barrier and was never headed in a two length win over win over Old Trieste (Hinchinbrook), giving the first season stallions a 1-2, Fastnet Rock filly Sailing By a half-length back in third. "He's a very nice colt. He went to Bendigo for what was a barrier trial really that day and he came home and he has improved a lot in the three weeks since then," O'Brien said.

"He's been very dominant today in what historically is a very good guide for the two-year-old season.

"He is a Magic Millions horse so I'll have a chat with Mark Sowerby and Ron Hamer who own the horse and we'll work out where we go in the autumn."

Winning rider James Winks said the son of Beneteau had brilliant natural speed.

"He jumped that quick I nearly fell off the back of him," Winks said.

"He got into a good rhythm and I think it is important to find the rail with these horses. He did a good job, he hit the front a long way out by himself and that was a really strong gallop, good for the future."

Bred by Ron Hamer, Prompt Return was sold from the Newgate Farm draft for $60,000 to Blue Sky Bloodstock at the 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.

A half-brother to Diamond Glow, who was second to Miracles Of Life in the 2013 Listed Blue Diamond Preview, Prompt Return is the  third foal of the Exceed and Excel mare Prompt, a daughter of Group II placed Amnesia (Desert Sun).

Prompt has a yearling sister to Prompt return from the second and final crop of foals by Beneteau (Redoute's Choice-Slice of Paradise by Encosta de Lago) who left a total of 135 foals.

Prompt slipped to her cover by Foxwedge last year.
