Donna Logan has some travelling ahead of her
before she makes a decision on the immediate future of her gallant Gr.1
Caulfield Cup runner-up Rising Romance.
She flew home on Monday to mull over with connections which path they take with
the high-class four-year-old.
"I want to get back to Ruakaka and have a good think about all the options and
I'll be going back to Melbourne at the end of the week to check on the mare
before we decide what we're going to do," Logan said.
"There's a lot of homework to be done and, of course, it will all depend on how
she is in herself, but the signs are good and she's come through the race well.
"We have to decide whether to run in the Mackinnon, whether she goes to Hong
Kong or whether she goes home."
The $A1 million Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) will be run at Flemington on Saturday
week and the $A1.95 million Gr.1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) will be run at Sha Tin
on December 8.
"If she is going to Hong Kong we have to look at the quarantine issues and she
would probably have to stay in Australia and quarantine there," Logan said.
"We would then have to also work out how that might affect her for the Queen
Elizabeth Stakes in Sydney in the autumn – there's a lot of work to be done
yet."
Rising Romance was given an outstanding ride by James McDonald at Caulfield and
Logan was still coming down to earth after the mare's effort to beat all but
the Japanese star Admire Rakti.
"I was gob-smacked with her performance - it was just mind-blowing and none of us
could have done any more," she said.
"We were beaten by a better one on the day, a world-class horse, but she did us
all proud. She's an amazing girl." – NZ Racing Desk.
