Great Start for Unencumbered

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 18
A brilliant two year-old by one of Victoria's favourite sons in Testa Rossa, Unencumbered always looked a good fit for the Victorian market and Three Bridges Thoroughbreds have been delighted with his performance and the way in which he has been received.

"We were thrilled to learn earlier this week that Unencumbered has started his breeding career mirroring his racetrack success with a couple of early wins with his first couple of pregnancies," said Toby Liston.

Unencumbered with Steve Toole"We are aware that it's very early in the season, however he has taken to his job like the natural he is and his libido is fantastic so it's onwards and upwards. He has always been a forward, mature colt and it is clearly the same in the breeding barn."

Unencumbered has already covered 30 mares in the first two weeks of the season and can now settle into a routine.

"He got through the first mares with ease, so the pressure is really off and he can cruise through the rest of the season when the mares are ready," Liston said.

"We were very mindful of starting his breeding career off as professionally as possible, so we secured highly regarded stallion man Steve Toole from NSW. He has one of the best CV's in the stallion game and Unencumbered hasn't missed a beat under his care.

"It has been terrific to watch and learn from somebody so passionate and experienced with stallions."

UnencumberedUnencumbered will cover a restricted book of 120 mares at a fee of $13,200.

"This has also been a positive, with the horse fully subscribed and cancellations the only way to secure a nomination," Liston said.

"We thank breeders from all across Australia for their early support and we wish them all the best for the breeding season.

"The restricted book also allows the breeder to have a greater chance in the sales ring because one thing is for certain, the progeny of two year old speed horses are extremely desirable in the market place, so come Magic Millions yearling sale 2017 the breeders who have supported him should be in for some fun."

Unencumbered will cover some seriously good quality mares that will give him every opportunity to succeed.

"As a progressive farm with fantastic clients who are growing with us every step of the way, we have been able to ensure the support in numbers and quality that Unencumbered deserves," said Liston.

"The quality of mares sent to him so far is incredible and there is no doubt that the overall farm broodmare band is now very impressive and continues to improve.

"With the additional support of astute outside breeders throughout Australia and trainers such as Gerald Ryan, who secured a Lifetime Breeding Right, the sky is the limit for Unencumbered moving forward."
