Cup day started on a winning note for Godolphin and while they might have lost
the chance to win with a Medaglia D'Oro (USA) following the scratching of classy
colt Meursault from the Listed ATC Ming Dynasty Quality on Saturday, they
quickly rebounded with his promising daughter Monogram scoring on debut.
Ridden quietly by James McDonald, the John O'Shea trained Monogram came with a
late rush to snatch a last stride win in the 1200 metre maiden.
Held in good regard by the stable, she is entered for the Group I MRC Thousand
Guineas.
Monogram is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Daanet al Dunya
(USA), a blue-blooded sister to European Horse of the Year Fantastic Light and
half-sister to the grand-dam of Australian Group I winning sprinter Your Song.
Daanet al Dunya has a yearling colt by Sepoy and is due to foal again to
Medaglia D'Oro, who is back at Darley in the Hunter Valley this year at the
reduced fee of $55,000.
