She
might have a name that sounds like the old mare that pulled the milk cart, but
this blue-blood looked anything but a cart horse when bolting in on debut at Cranbourne
on Thursday.
The Peter Moody trained Betsy was sent out favourite for the 1450 metre maiden
and quickly asserted her superiority, travelling smoothly just off the pace and
accelerating away to win by four lengths.
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Coolmore draft for David Redvers on
behalf of Qatar Bloodstock, Betsy is nominated for the Group I MRC Thousand
Guineas, although her trainer was unsure if she would get there as she is still
immature and will obviously be a stronger filly next preparation.
Betsy is certainly bred to be good being by champion sire Redoute's Choice from
Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes winner Quays, a daughter of Group I AJC Flight
Stakes winner Pontal Lass.
A full sister to Group II placed I Think I Do, Betsy was bred by Fairway
Thoroughbreds and is the last foal from Quays, who died in 2012.
